Restaurant Week, August 16-22

Washington, DC Summer Restaurant Week is back. If you missed it last year, here is your chance to check out over 200 restaurants offering a three-course fixed price meal under $40. To make the most out of your visit, make your reservation online through OpenTable.com or call to reserve your table.

If you're in the mood for Italian, Carmine's, NYC Legendary Family Italian Restaurant is now open in Gallery Place. There are no fancy menus, as in all Carmine’s you will see a broadcast on large boards placed in various locations throughout the restaurant.

I was first introduced to Carmine's by the request of my daughter after seeing the stage play, The Color Purple in New York. The food exuded that genuine Italian flavor that I've longed for. I'm very big on appetizers so I recommend the Zuppa De Mussels, Stuffed Mushrooms, Fried Calamari, and Fried Zucchini. For the entrée I suggest the Chicken Marsala, and the Veal Parmigiana.

Eggs Benedict is one of my favorite dishes in the world. It's something about poached eggs and hollandaise sauce that smooths my palate.  While visiting Miami a few summers back, I had the frivolous pleasures of this mouth watering Canadian Bacon Eggs Benedict at La Provence. With 5 locations in  Miami, you will also enjoy their fresh breads, pastries, and Croque Monsieur while watching the chic standoffish locals savy in and out of the store. You can visit them at http://www.laprovencemiami.com/

Farmers and Fishers

If you have a taste for fresh delicacies of the sea make sure you drop in at Farmers and Fishers for a bite to eat. Quench your thirst with an Organic Vodka Cocktail topped with a fresh cucumber and melon drop.

I recommend the Maryland Crab Dip served with Ciabatta. It’s very creamy and has just enough olive oil for flavor. For an entrée order the Fish Camp Seafood Basket. It comes with a 4 oz. crabcake, fried shrimp, fish, fries, cole slaw, and corn.

Afterwards take a stroll over to Tony and Joe's outside bar and mingle with the locals while watching a spectacular view of the Potomac River, Kennedy Center, and the Key Bridge.

For you single ladies you never know who you may meet. If you are lucky you might just meet a nice hunk docking his boat on the pier for an afternoon drink.
